Jobs with a Sociology Major

The following is not a job for which a BA in sociology would qualify you, but I thought it'd be useful to pass it along to supplement your mental database of sociology related jobs. The field of online content creation is a growing one, and will, I suspect, play a larger and larger role in higher education over time (for better or worse, one can add).

The Content Writer will create new Sociology content and shape our Sociology online tools to best serve students and professors alike.

This is a full-time, on-site position located in our Belmont, CA office.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Write, review, and edit online teaching materials for undergraduate Sociology courses
  • Work with our team of content developers and project editors to help determine priorities and accomplish goals of Aplia's Sociology discipline
  • Be familiar with our current content to advise the sales and support teams on any content-related questions
  • Assist students and teachers by answering content specific questions
  • Review and develop innovative Sociology tools to best serve our students and professors
Basic Qualifications Required:
  • Master's degree in Sociology
  • Must have experience teaching undergraduate courses in Sociology
  • Excellent knowledge of grammar and command of the English language
  • Top-notch written and oral communication skills
  • Computer savvy with the ability to quickly pick up technical skills
  • Bright, hard-working, flexible, dedicated, and team-focused self starter
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Sociology
  • Formal editorial / writing experience
  • Familiarity with the Aplia platform
